I finally got to see Spiderman 2 this evening. Okay date movie, but it did have a lot of cheese. However, what I was more ecstatic about was one of the trailers, "A Sound of Thunder." If it wasn't for the fact that I was in a public place, I would have been jumping up and down as I've finally discovered one of the most influential stories of my childhood.
I remember the story vaguely back in 4th-6th grade sometime when my teacher read that story to us (do teachers do that anymore?). I had forgotten the title and the author, but remembered vividly the time machine, the sign, the dinosaur hunt, the trail they were supposed to stay on, the butterfly, and the eventual conclusion. But for the longest time I couldn't find the original story. That was until I saw the trailer. When they showed the hunters walking on the path, I immediately knew.
One more mystery in my life revealed: Here's the original text of the short story. I hope they don't botch the movie, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.
So how are the olympics? Are the products of child abuse bringing in the gold? I hear the US basketball team sucks.
